Effective Bite Splints

Course I – The Base Dr Alain Aubé

“More tooth structure is lost today to wear than to decay. It is time we realise this and redirect our practices towards our patients true needs” — Alain Aubé

Profile

We make bite splints to help our patients. Whether in the presence of attrition, fissures, cracks, abfraction, mobility, muscle tension, headaches or even joint pain, the primary purpose of a splint is to help reduce pressure levels. A splint should reduce muscle tension and properly distribute forces. A well-made splint is effective and comfortable to wear.

“Aubé-style” splints have a solid reputation and are based in science.

Objectives

Which patients need a splint? What kind of splint? Maxillary or mandibular, what material, articulation? Get answers to all of these questions while prioritizing effectiveness and comfort. You’ll also learn to perfectly adjust the splints.

Content

This is the first course in the “Occlusion” series.

Day 1
Lecture on identifying which patients need splints. We’ll review multiple cases to understand what a splint can do for patients and who can benefit from them.

Day 2
Bite splint principles in the morning. Adjustment (hands on) of two bite splints in the afternoon, one maxillary and one mandibular.

BiteFx animations make it easier to explain things to patients and help them grasp concepts that would otherwise be difficult to understand. A picture is worth a thousand words!”
