Canadian Occlusion Institute

The Canadian Occlusion Institute was founded to help dentists progress beyond the notions of occlusion acquired at university. Some colleagues have found themselves at a loss when faced with the various problems that can arise from occlusion.

Dr. Aubé has a reputation for making things clear. His complete, pictorial explanations, based on science, give a clinical sense that can be applied and used on a daily basis. His numerous case presentations enlighten and elucidate what may have seemed more or less obvious.

His love of teaching and passion for the profession shines through.

Dr Alain Aubé

Expertise in jaw disorders, dental occlusion and prosthodontic rehabilitation.

1984

Graduating as a general dentist from the Université de Montréal in 1984, he went on to complete a multidisciplinary residency with McGill University at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, where he perfected his education in prosthodontic rehabilitation and oral surgery.

1987

He began his private practice in 1987 in Montreal.

1995

From 1995 to 1999, he studied occlusion concepts at the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Studies. At the same time, he studied TMJ pathology with Dr. Mark Piper, DMD, MD, a surgeon specializing in TMJ surgery.

1998

From 1998 to 2000, he ran a pilot project with La Clinique de la Migraine de Montréal, and neurologist Dr. Jacques Meloche, on reducing chronic tension headache and migraine symptoms through dental balancing. In the end, 17 of the 21 patients treated saw their headaches reduced by 80% in number and intensity. The results of this project were presented at a congress in Chicago in February 2000.

2000

Presentation of research results on the effect of occlusal balancing on headaches and migraines at the prestigious American Academy of Restorative Dentistry.

2007

In 2007, the publication of his article “Treating severe malocclusion: A question of principles” in the American journal “Dentistry Today” became a turning point in his career, initiating a series of requests, lectures, courses and articles.

2008

In 2008, Dr. Aubé founded the Montreal Occlusion Education Centre, which soon became the Canadian Occlusion Institute, an institute dedicated to teaching TMJ pathologies and dental occlusion disorders.

2009

From 2008 to 2011, Dr. Aubé gives several courses and lectures at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal (“Savoir reconnaître et diagnostiquer les problèmes d’occlusion” and “Les plaques occlusales efficaces”) as part of the Journées Dentaires Internationales du Québec organized by the Ordre des dentistes du Québec.

2011

In 2011, the Clinique de l’Institut Canadien d’Occlusion was born, a clinic dedicated exclusively to the diagnosis, care and long-term management of patients…

2013

In 2013, Dr Aubé was awarded the distinction of Professional of the Year in Dentistry by Worldwide Who’s Who for his professional and academic achievements.

2015

Dr. Aubé is appointed to teach a course on TMJ and occlusion as part of the implantology program at the University of Evry Val-D’Essonne in France. In the same year, he presents a lecture titled “The Relationship Between TMJ Pathology and Malocclusions” in Ostend, Belgium, for the International Association of French-Speaking Orthodontists.

2016

Dr. Aubé also presented this lecture at the “Northwestern Component of the Edward H.Angle Society of Orthodontists”.

2018

Dr. Aubé prepared a video on the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in dentistry for the University of Louisville in Kentucky, Dental Faculty.

Dr. Aubé regularly organizes conference dinners to inform dentists about joint pathologies and their effects on the premature wear of dentition.

2019

Dr. Aubé, in collaboration with Dr. German Ramirez-Yanez, published an article titled “Mandibular Condyle Remodeling after Functional Orthopedic Treatment: A Clinical Report of Four Cases,” which appeared in the Journal of Contemporary Dental Practice.

2020

Numerous free webinars during the COVID-19 pandemic.

2021

Presentation to the Alpha Omega Dental Society of Montreal.

2023

Webinar “TMJ Issues in Orthodontics” presented to 2,500 participants.

2024

Webinar “Who Needs a Splint and Why” presented to 2,700 participants.

2002

Dr. Prévost obtained his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the Université de Montréal in 2002. He then continued his training in implant-supported prosthodontic rehabilitation at Temple University in Philadelphia.

2006

He graduated from the MII (Misch Implant Institute) in 2006, and was named a Fellow of the ICOI (International Congress of Oral Implantologists).

2008

From 2008 to 2012, he developed a keen interest in joint pathologies (TMJ) and occlusion concepts, which he studied at the Canadian Occlusion Institute (formerly the Montreal Occlusion Education Center) and at the Piper Research and Educational Center in Florida.

2011

Since 2011, Dr. Prévost has been teaching TMJ pathology and dental occlusion disorders at the Canadian Occlusion Institute.
